Has Bobby Howry been released yet? WTF was Lou using him in a close game? what doesn't Lou get?
And Wood is a 1 inning guy. WTF?
AND does Derek Lee do anything but ground to short now? minus the occasinal single. He must be really hurting - back, wrist, neck, shoulder. He's a mess. We need a new 1st baseman - you can't have singles hitters at first.

First Zambrano, now . . .
Rich Harden-S- Cubs Sep. 3 - 2:14 pm et Although he says he's not injured, Rich Harden isn't slated to pitch again until next Wednesday.
It makes sense for the Cubs to give Harden an extra couple of days off now and then, but they wouldn't be giving him 11 days' rest unless there was something wrong. Manager Lou Piniella practically admitted as much. "He needed the time, obviously," Piniella said. "If he could pitch, we would have kept him in the rotation." Be afraid.

JR, I don't think that represents anything new with Harden. At least I hope it doesn't!

Freaking Ramirez is 6 for his last 38. .157. Brutal.
Lee is hitting singles or grounding in to DPs to shortstop.
Soriano is swinging at everything.

Flukeodome hasn't exactly set the world on fire the last 3 months.

Rosenidiot is a Sox fan who loves ripping the Cubs. He is apparently trying to fill the Marriotti void. Zambrano's injury has been classified as not as serious as his June injury. He had a shot and will miss one start. If things are still looking good for the playoffs I hope they skip him twice just to be safe. Why rush him back?

No shit - that guy has been worthless the last 6 weeks. He can't be in there when the game is on the line - or at bat.

The Rays are growing less hopeful of moving Pat Burrell to the Cubs.

I would gladly take Meche for Bradley, and not look back.

I'd love to do that trade too, but it doesn't sound like the Royals are that anxious to trade Meche. They probably think if they're going to have an overpaid player, they may as well stick with what they have instead of taking on problem child Bradley.

Per Peter Gammons, the Tigers have asked for Starlin Castro and two additional prospects in return for Curtis Granderson. The Cubs think that is too high of a price to pay.
Also, it appears Mike Fontenot will not be non-tendered, even with his Super Two status.

Looper Interested In Pitching For The CubsBraden Looper tells Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports that he would pitch for the Cubs. Looper says they're an "appealing" destination, partly because he has three kids going to Chicago schools. Still, the 35-year-old wouldn't mind pitching elsewhere.
"I'm going to look around and see what my options are," Looper said.
So far the righty says discussions have been slow to develop. Looper has pitched his entire 12-year career in the NL and it seems likely he'll stay in the senior circuit.www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/12/looper-interested-in-pitching-for-the-cubs.html

Multiple Teams In On Putz
J.J. Putz is drawing interest from several clubs, according to Jon Paul Morosi. The Cubs, White Sox, D'Backs, Rangers, Nationals, and Tigers have all shown varying levels of interest. After being acquired by the Mets in a big three-team trade at last year's meetings, Putz was a disappointment in New York, posting a 5.22 ERA before going down for the season on June 4. The former All-Star recently held a throwing session for scouts in Arizona following bone spur removal surgery on his throwing elbow this season.

Man, this sucks about WC going down right in the middle of the winter meetings. There have been quite a few interesting things worth talking about the last couple of days.
